Evolver is seeking a Data Center Architect to work in Bowie, MD.

Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen and qualify for a Public Trust clearance level position

This position will serve as the lead data center architect responsible for a team of multidiscipline engineers to provide technical engineering and architecture expertise in a RedHat Linux, Solaris Unix, IBM SVC SAN, IBM blade servers, Cisco UCS blade servers, VMWare, and Windows Servers enterprise level environment.

  • Technical expertise with design of datacenter server/applications, network and storage architecture, industry wide understanding of datacenter infrastructure applications (operating systems, databases, replication/disaster recovery, and data protection, expertise with server operating systems, databases, business applications, storage infrastructure, and application integration with respect to infrastructure.

  • Experience with developing business case and ROI, IT people/process consulting knowledge and experience, understanding of datacenter physical requirements like power, cooling, cabling etc., operations experience and working knowledge in implementing management and monitoring infrastructure for the datacenter.

  • Responsible for performing detailed infrastructure engineering design and providing technical roadmaps for future and existing infrastructure to meet US Census Bureau business requirements.

  • Document appropriate technology business case analysis.

  • Provide recommendations of applicable technologies as they reach maturity and applicability.

  • Incorporate strong systems engineering principals to ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of infrastructure components for better operational performance.

  • Strong consulting and presentation skills

  • Knowledge and experience on holistic data center virtualization (spanning, compute, storage, security and networking services like server load balancing etc) is highly desirable.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Will consider years of experience and/or certifications in lieu of Degree.

  • Must have 10+ years of Systems Engineering experience in an enterprise data center or infrastructure environment.

  • Must have a demonstrated detailed understanding of Microsoft and RedHat Linux operating systems architecture with clustering.

  • Must have a demonstrated detailed understanding of VMWare architecture and virtualized machines.

  • Must have experience and knowledge of SAN environments, preferably IBM SVC SAN technology.

  • Must have experience and knowledge of server blade technologies, preferably IBM HS Series blades, and Cisco UCS.

  • Must have experience and knowledge of Cloud services and technologies, to include IaaS and PaaS

  • Must have experience implementing ITIL and SDLC principles to support IT infrastructure services

  • Must be able to communicate well in a customer service oriented environment.

  • Must be able to manage a team of engineers to ensure task completion.

  • Hands on experience using TCO tools for IT Cloud Services, similar to AWS, Azure. Familiar with IT transformation projects, including deep understanding of ITIL, SDLC, TCO and other common IT frameworks.

  • Knowledge of vmWare vCloud Director cost analysis for deployment comparisons and migration to cloud services

  • Proven ability to incubate, develop & deliver solution driven architectures

  • Ability to create scripts to drive automation within these solution driven architectures.

  • Consulting experience, strong Client facing skills to drive trusted advisor status with customers.

  • Broad technical knowledge of the data center and its components:

  • (Applications, Storage, Network, Server and projects surrounding their planning, design, implementation, operation, migration and optimization.)

  • Architectural knowledge of Three Tiered application environments

  • Programming Experience (Python, XML) and *nix systems (Unix, Linux, etc.)

  • Programmatic control of infrastructure elements (ACI,APIC, WAE, NFM, VTS & NFM )

  • Compute technologies: x86, hypervisor (Openstack/KVM), OS (Linux/Windows), workload mobility.

  • Understands and can articulate the value and business advantage of data center virtualization techniques and cloud architectures.

  • Expert familiarity with cloud computing concepts including virtualization, web services API's, elastic infrastructure, distributed data storage (database, block, object), multi-tenancy, and metered usage patterns.

  • In depth knowledge and experience with virtualization tools and concepts, SAN, Server technologies and data center and cloud Operations.

  • Networking: OSI Layer 2 (Spanning tree, vPC, EtherChannel, VLAN, VXLAN, FabricPath, OTV etc), Layer 3 switching /routing (OSPF, EIGRP, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, IPv4/6), DNS/DHCP WAN/ISP, network virtualization (N1kv, VRF), basics of higher layer protocols: SSL/TLS, HTTP, real-time traffic (voice/video), NFS, database access protocols.

  • Network Services (Loadbalancers, Firewalls, Caching & Content Delivery ) technologies

Preferred certification in one or more of the following:

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

  • RedHat Certifications - RHCE

  • VMWare Certification - VCA-DCV or higher

  • IBM Storage Certification - Enterprise Storage Technical Specialist V3

  • ITIL Practitioner Certification
